The Only Hospitalist-Focused Leadership Program

Join the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) in sunny Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The SHM Leadership Academy prepares clinicians, academicians and administrators with vital leadership skills traditionally not taught in medical school or typical residency programs, tailored specifically to hospital medicine.

All three courses run concurrently over the span of the four days and are led by world-renowned faculty. This expanded meeting will provide attendees with unprecedented networking opportunities with hundreds of colleagues, and create opportunities for enhanced career development.

SHM’s expert Leadership Academy faculty have created these programs to benefit physicians, other providers (such as NPs and PAs) and administrators. By covering vital topics such as overcoming leadership challenges, effectively advocating a hospitalist program, conflict management, improving patient outcomes and more, hospital medicine leaders of all training backgrounds will gain valuable skill sets. The two Advanced courses build on the introductory Leadership Foundations course.

Dr. Nelson will focus on the details of effectively applying these concepts into your daily practice and hospitalist group.

Hear what past attendees are saying about their Leadership Academy experiences.

“SHM’s Leadership Academy teaches leadership skills for individuals all across the spectrum of the hospital team. My experience helped me to raise the bar not only to benefit myself, but also my institution, and especially my patients.

I highly recommend this experience to any hospital medicine professionals who aspire to take their Leadership skills to the next level.”

Ron Greeno, MD, FCCP, MHM
“The separate Academies offer you a little bit more concentration [than the annual meeting] in the areas specific to you such as faculty development, personal development, and career development, it equally balances all of those things together whether you are an academic hospitalist, a community hospitalist or a leader that just even leads two people!

The skills that you get about thinking about the drivers that move hospital medicine forward are so valuable.”

Alyssa Stephany, MD
“You actually get to learn some skills and pick up some tools to help you with the leadership aspect of hospital medicine, not just within the group but also as a team member within the hospital.

There are a lot of ways to do leadership programs but this is specifically directed at hospitalists who have specific challenges and areas.”

Alejandro Necochea, MD, MPH, FHM
“We were able to get in contact with people who are really experts on the material; and the teachings were geared toward hospital medicine, patient safety, quality. I think that’s what distinguishes these leadership courses”
Shaker Eid, MD
“I will use team building to create a more cohesive, effective and organized meeting which enhances a true TEAM EFFORT! I loved this conference!”

“I will utilize the knowledge obtained to raise the bar and strengthen my team.”
Attendee, Winter 2012
“As a newly elected program director, I now have the tools to develop my management skills and manage change effectively within my group. I’ve learned which metrics are most relevant as we develop our dashboard, which aligns with administration’s goals. I feel much more confident and feel I have a clear direction, as I return to work on Monday.”
